The birth of Opinion-Tech

Opinion-Tech was launched at the March 2003 OpTech User Conference, in Baltimore, Maryland. The conference involved a series of announcements:

  • A new system architecture, based on multiple servers and distributed interviewing technology
  • A new, more professional service and support organization
  • A new name for the software platform: 'OpTech'
  • A new way to share work and resources: 'Opinion-Tech Network'
  • A new fee structure that better supports opinion research business cycles: transactional fees based on actual usage, rather than traditional lump-sum software product licensing

The key factor that prompted the launch of Opinion-Tech was the completion of OpTech's true distributed interviewing. This change, representing a complete redesign and rearchitecting of the core system, permitted a re-thinking of how OpTech users could best be supported. The answer was a service-based offering built around Opinion-Tech Network, rather than the license-driven business model used by traditional software companies.
